Pro-class mud drag racers competed at three 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals® Series in 2009.
(INDIANAPOLIS) The winners in the top four professional classes of mud drag racing sanctioned by NMRO Championship Mud Racing were determined in Indianapolis on the weekend of September 18-20, 2009. Competition at the O'Reilly Auto Parts Fall 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals presented by Geico Powersports at the Indiana State Fairgrounds the third of a three-event racing season for the NMRO. Event one was held in Lima OH at the Spring 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals on May 18-20. Event two was in Bloomsburg, PA on July 10-12 at the Summer 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals. Professional racers competed in Classes 3-6, with each successive class stepping up in performance capability.
In Class 3, Travis and Chad Wren finished one-two, with Shawn Tootle coming in third. Travis Wren, of Christmas, FL in his machine called "Boogie Man" finished the season with a 35-point winning margin over Chad Wren, also of Christmas, FL in his mud racer called "Dirty Sanchez". Tootle, of Reidsville, GA drove a racer called "After Hours". Rounding out the top five in Class 3 were fourth place finisher David Kurtz in "The Gambler" and fifth-placed Matt Evans in "Out of Control".
"Mudgician" was the name of the winning dragster in Class 4. It was driven by Keith Mitchell of Fredonia, PA. Runner-up in Class 4 was Ed Block of Jessup, IA in "Alter Ego", who finished the season 30 points out of first place. Third place in Class 4 went to Billy Gillispie of Hurricane, WV in "Anger Management". Rick Hoffman in "Prosecutor" was fourth and Todd Franklin Sr. in "Hillbillies on Alcohol" was fifth.
Jason Massie of Fraziers Bottom, WV in "Intensity" wrapped up the championship of Class 5 by the widest margin of all the pro classes. Massie finished a dominating 50 points ahead of second-place Chuck Courty Jr. in "Mudmissle" from Pittsburgh, PA. Third place in Class 5 went to Mike Lane from Botkins, OH in "Attitude". Jason Massie also had a second entry that finished in a tie for fourth place. His alternate ride was called "Splash II". Mark Lee of Clayton, NC in "Time Bandit" had the other half of the tie for fourth in Class 5.
Class 6 NMRO mud dragsters have the most horsepower and the most aggressively treaded paddle tires. In this elite class, Chuck Courty III of Pittsburgh, PA in "Mudmissle" took home the championship with a narrow win over "Wicked Sensation" driven by Mike Lane of Botkins, OH. In the top class, Jason Massie in "Intensity" tied for third with Mark Lee of Clayton, NC in "Pure Energy". It was a very close race for the championship with Massie and Lee ending only 10 points behind Courty III. Mark Osteen of Daytona Beach, FL finished in fifth in "Dad's Dirty Bird".
